Mara Autonomous District Council Election 2012 to be held on May 3

Aizawl, April 13 (Maraland Today): Mizoram State Election Commission (SEC) has announced today the date of the election of Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) will be held on May 3, 2012 (Thursday).

Announcing before the media, Pu R. Ropianga, IAS(Rtd), the commissioner urged the media to play a positive role in conducting a free and fair election.

The last date of filing nomination papers will be on April 18, 2012 at 3:00PM. Any candidates who would like to withdraw their nominations can do so before April 19, 2012 at 3:00PM.

If any untowards happened and the election could not be conducted on the appointed date, it may be held on the following day, i.e. May 4, 2012.

Counting of votes will be held on Monday, May 7, 2012 from 8:00AM onwards.

The new MADC government is expected to assemble and constitute on Friday, May 11, 2012.

With the creation of three new constituencies of Members of District Council (MDC) this year, MADC now has 25 seats. The other two Autonomous District Councils in Mizoram are Chakma ADC and Lai ADC in the adjacent Lawngtlai District.
