The Opposition alliance has burnt copies of the new Constitution and Conduct of Business (amendment) Rules (CCB Rules) 2011 of Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), saying that it is nothing but the infringement and violation of the autonomy and rights of the council.
When the House met last session, the ruling COngress party had passed the bill adopting changes in the CCB Rules.
The opposition, the Co-ordination comprising of Maraland Democratic Front (MDF) and ally Mizo National Front (MNF) held a public meeting at Mizoram's third largest town Saiha Main Market traffic point on Monday, February 27, 2012 and denounced the CCB Rules. They said, all NGOs and even Churches in the district had requested the government to not take hasty decision but to wait more and open more dialogues between all the stakeholders, but it felt on deaf ears, they said.
The public meeting was led by former MLA, S.Vadyu. Co-ordination Committee Chairman and MDF Headquarters President M. Laikaw and MNF District Headquarters President, HC. Lalmalsawma Zasai spoke on the occasion. They said though the constitution of India has made provision to protect minorities in the country under the Sixth Schedule but the CCB Rules 2011 passed by the MADC will destroy such privileges, they alleged. They said they will never accept this and they told the public that they have gone to the High Court to contest the case.
At the end of the outdoor meeting, the leaders burnt the copies of the CCB Rules 2011.
