Three New MDC Seats Proposed for Mara ADC

The state government has agreed to add three new elected Member of District Council (MDC) to the existing 22 members in the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) and with this effect the Delimitation Committee was formed and the notification was issued on 8th February 2012.

It is learnt that the Delimitation Committee has recommended the following as the three new Constituencies:

1. College Vaih - II: This will be carved out from the existing College Vaih MDC constituency. Education Vaih and AOC vaih within College vaih will become part of the new constituency. And part of New Siaha adjacent to Education Vaih has also been included in this. Chhochho Paw vaih, which is part of New Colony Constituency will become part of College Vaih (I) Constituency.

2. Pala Constituency: Pala, known in Mizo as Lawngban will become the new constituency. This constituency will include Pala, Maisa, Lohry nata Lodawhtla. Pala was earlier part of Tokalo constituency.

3. Vahia Constituency: Vahia, Miepu nata Lopu has been created. Earlier, they were part of Laki Constituency. Laki constituency will now include Laki, Khopai and Ahmyhpi. Khopai and Ahmyhpi were part of Zyhno Constituency earlier. Zyhno was a big constituency. It is a welcoming change to slice this one. Zyhno and Zyhno Lotai Vaih and Siatlai will continue to be part of Zyhno constituency.

If the recommendation made by the Delimitation Committee headed by its Chairman Puhpa Kunal, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of Saiha district is accepted by the District Council Affairs, Gov't of Mizoram, it will become effective from this year Mara ADC election itself.
